Mary was born in 1961 in Columbus, Ohio and attended The Ohio State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology in 1983.  Mary worked as a research assistant for a neonatologist at Nationwide Columbus Children’s Hospital for several years before attending law school. 

Mary graduated with honors from Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio in 1990.   Mary has practiced before numerous municipal and common pleas courts and the Ohio Supreme Court.  Mary is also admitted to practice in the U. S. District Court (Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio) and the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. 

Mary’s practice concentrates on protection of the rights of those who are injured through the negligence of others, including medical and nursing home malpractice, automobile injuries and premises liability injuries.  She also represents individual and business clients in general and commercial litigation including claims based on insurance coverage.  Mary has experience representing construction clients before the American Arbitration Association (AAA); labor and employment matters before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Ohio Civil Rights Commission (OCRC); handling claims before Ohio’s Bureau of workers’ compensation (BWC); handling unemployment compensation matters for her clients; and workplace death and injury matters before the Occupational Safety and health Administration (OSHA). 

Mary is a member of the Ohio Association for Justice (OAJ), and the Ohio State and Dayton Bar Associations.  Recently, Mary served as an Ambassador for the Campaign for Equal Justice for ABLE; served as a Mentor in the Lawyer to Lawyer Mentoring Program sponsored by the Ohio Supreme Court; served on the Board of Trustees for the Dayton Bar Association; and has served as a board member for the Downtown Dayton YMCA, and for Epilepsy Association for Western Ohio.  Mary lives in Beavercreek, Ohio, with her husband Philip Rumme and their two daughters, Emma and Elizabeth (“Ellie”).
